Outdoor Alternative Education is for children and young people aged 8-14.
‘If we judged a fish on it’s ability to climb a tree, then it would live it’s entire live believing that it was stupid’ Albert Einstein.
Outdoor Alternative Education is a space where all learners are valued for their unique interests and abilities. We will nurture their innate drive to learn by following their passions and putting the children at the heart of our programme.
Attendees will have the opportunity to develop new skills in fire lighting, woodland crafts, tool use and woodland management. Most Importantly, they will become part of a new community of learners, forging new friendships and supporting each other to learn.
With Outdoor Alternative Education, children and young people will gain knowledge and understanding about the natural world while enjoying the inherit benefits to mental and physical well-being that spending time outdoors brings.
Most importantly, we do not follow a curriculum. Each week we will build on the learnings and interests of the previous one.
Our Wednesday Outdoor Alternative Education group will run with small number and will be supported by 2 highly skilled staff. Our staff hold have undergone an Enhanced Disclosure Check. They skilled and experienced in delivering outdoor learning and play and have an understanding of supporting young people who have neurological differences and people who have experienced trauma.
Outdoor Alternative Education can provide children with the opportunity to succeed and thrive. This can be particularity effective for those who find that main stream education does not meet their needs . Most importantly, we will provide a child centered programme where all children are treated with unconditional positive regard and where ALL behaviours are seen to be a form of communication.
However, we cannot offer 1-1 support so if your child has specific additional needs please get in touch before you book.
This is a ‘Child Only’ event, however we understand that children may need additional support at first so parents are welcome to stay for first few weeks to help them adapt to the new group and environment, as long as we are gradually working towards the child attending independently
Our first block 6 weeks block starts on the 28th October 2020 and will run from 1.30pm until 3.30pm. We will meet in Bothwell Road Park, Hamilton, South Lanarkshire. This is easily accessible by train with the closet station being Hamilton West – the park is approximately a 10 minute walk from there.
Cost for the block is £75 per child.
